BEN TUCK WINS RSF MSA YOUNG DRIVER OF THE YEAR!

Ben Tuck who is sponsored by Goldstar Onboard has topped off a superb rookie season by being named as the 2015 Racing Steps Foundation Motor Sports Association Young Driver of the Year.

The award is the crowning achievement of his debut full season in which he finished 3rd in the final standings of the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship, amassing the highest total points before drop scores were taken into account.  Showing incredible consistency and maturity he finished all 19 races with no DNF’s and was never outside the top 9, with 14 top 5 finishes, 2 Wins, 6 podiums and 2 fastest laps.  As well as the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship he also competed as a guest in an international MX-5 race at Spa, where he claimed overall pole position but started at the back of the grid along with the other guest entrants. In the race he came from 36th position to finish 5th overall taking the class win and claiming the fastest Mazda MX-5 lap of the weekend.

Nominees for the award were put through their paces in a rigorous evaluation review at Silverstone in early December. During the appraisal they were assessed on their driving performance in several simulators including the latest FIA Formula 4 car. They were also measured on their mental, cognitive and focus skills and were required to give presentations and undergo an interview.  At the end of the evaluation Ben emerged as the clear winner. The award was presented by Chief Executive of WorldSport Management and Director of the RSF Driver Development Programme, Derek Walters and MSA Performance Director, Robert Reid.

The title was awarded not only on the basis of his impressive performance at the evaluation and season long championship successes, but also on his work away from the track with the MSA Academy.  The award is the perfect foundation upon which to launch his 2016 campaign where he plans to compete in the BRSCC Caterham Supersport Championship.  Ben is targeting a drive in a top flight GT Championship in the future and a solid performance in Caterham Supersports will help to maximise his opportunities.

Rarely has a rookie season been so endowed with hard won success as 2015 for Ben Tuck and his performance and achievements are a showcase for his exciting and impressive mix of hard work, determination and raw talent. 2016 certainly looks bright for one of the UK’s hottest young racing talents.
